About This Project

Luray, VA – 4,582 sq. ft.

Substantial funding from USDA Rural Development facilitated construction of a new terminal building for Luray Caverns Airport, replacing the converted poultry house that had been in use since the airport opened in 1969.

This single-story structure was built with metal trusses, steel columns, and metal framing, and finished on the exterior with masonry and various fiber-cement siding patterns. Two air handler units equipped with economizers efficiently heat and cool the building based on occupancy.

Designed with a line of sight to the runway to communicate with plane traffic, the new terminal features a 1,261 public lobby, a line counter where travelers are welcomed and served by airport staff, a community conference room, pilot’s lounge, flight planning room, airport manager’s office, vending area, and ADA-compliant restrooms.
