Larry Hedrick retires after nearly 22 years as a Lantz project manager

Larry Hedrick will officially put his Lantz hardhat down on July 1, 2020 as he embarks upon a well-deserved retirement. For more than twenty years, Larry has been an instrumental part of Lantz’s projects. Dedicated to his craft and always dependable, he has been a true asset to our team. We knew this day was coming and its arrival is very bittersweet!

Larry has over 50 years of extensive construction experience and has been with Lantz since August 1998, when he joined Team Lantz as a Project Manager, primarily managing industrial projects. He also served our country in the United States Army as a E5 Sergeant Combat Engineer (1966-68).

Born and raised in West Virginia with a degree from West Virginia University’s Institute of Technology, Larry’s strong ties to the state have led to many successful Lantz projects and on-going relationships. We are very appreciative of all Larry has done for Lantz and for his steadfast dedication to Lantz’s growth. While his list of Lantz projects is extensive, a few stand out to Larry and are worthy of an honorable mention. Those include Grant Memorial Hospital’s E Wing Renovation, JMU’s Steam Plant Additions & Renovations and Small Winds Testing & Training Center, Highlands Golf Course Clubhouse, Pendleton Community Care Office Addition, Pendleton County Courthouse, Pendleton Manor 100 Wing and 400 Wing Renovations, Town of Woodstock Waste Water Treatment Facility, and Danone North America (formerly WhiteWave Foods) Creamer Line, Plant Expansions & Renovations, plus multiple miscellaneous Danone projects at both the VA and PA sites.

Over the course of his career at Lantz, team members and clients alike have had notable kind words to say about Larry.  Here are just a few:

  • “My journey with Larry started in 1978 when he started teaching me in trade school, with a couple of breaks along the way we have worked together for almost 40 years. In that time, he has never quit teaching and reminding all those around him of what is really important in life: honesty, integrity, respect, work ethic, and taking care of the little things. By following these few simple principles, myself and everyone working with him have become better, and he will be sorely missed. Because of his influence I can honestly say that there has never been a project he was involved in that wasn’t done to the best of everyone’s ability and was always a compliment to the company. I sincerely hope that you enjoy the next stop in your journey and never quit teaching.” Scott Moyers, Senior Superintendent
  • “Wow! How do I summarize what Larry Hedrick has meant to Lantz and the construction industry? I am not certain it’s possible but I would say Larry had a relentless passion, albeit a “quiet one”, to make sure everyone succeeded and was pleased with the finished product. Thank-you Larry and have a wonderful retirement, you’ve earned it!” Andy Tutwiler, Chief Operations Officer
  • “I’ve always referred to Larry as the ‘Godfather’ of construction given his vast experience and knowledge! He’s never agreed with me on that label but he knows it and so does everyone else who has ever worked with him! It was an honor and privilege for me to have had the opportunity to work closely with Larry on a number of projects, especially our first large WhiteWave projects (HG3 & HG4)!  I’m going to miss him immensely as will the rest of Team Lantz!  But, he has certainly earned it and I wish him the best of luck in the next phase of his life!” Chris Weaver, President & CEO
  • “Thank you for your good work. It is obvious that you go the extra mile to satisfy our clients. It is this type of dedication that will ensure our Company’s continued success. We are all appreciative of your hard work and dedication. It makes us all very proud to be associated with you.” Douglas Driver, past President
  • “There is NO doubt that Larry is on my Top 10 list of the Most Influential Professionals that I have had the honor to work with in my 40-year engineering career! Larry was the Lantz Project Manager on my first large project at the WhiteWave (now Danone) beverage plant in Mt Crawford (MTC).  His calm confidence, wealth of construction knowledge and integrity was so very welcome.  Whenever additional projects came along at MTC, I made sure that Larry was on the Lantz Team because I knew he would make sure ALL issues were handled quickly and fairly (usually before I knew about them).  I will miss the twinkle in Larry’s eyes when I ask him how his grandchildren are but know he will now have more time to spend with them.  Congratulations Larry — wishing you a WONDERFUL retirement!”  Jamie Dettmann, OEM Director – Construction Administration
  • “Larry has been a rock on several high priority projects for WhiteWave/Danone since I joined the company 6 years ago. No matter how crazy of a job or schedule we could come up with, Larry has always kept the train on the rails.  I am going to miss his quiet voice of reason and endless depth of knowledge of all things construction, I never found a building task that Larry couldn’t come up with a solution for.  Larry’s proactive approach on the projects truly made him an invaluable project team member.  Larry, congratulations and best wishes on your well-deserved retirement.” Melissa Locklear, Danone NA – Engineering Manager, Supply Chain

Larry recently celebrated another major milestone with his wife Millie—their 51st wedding anniversary!  We know Larry is looking forward to more time with his grandkids, hunting/fishing/spending time at his cabin, and taking care of Millie’s “honey do” list.  Please join us in wishing Larry the best of luck in the future!
