Bigger, Better Trout – Coursey Springs Hatchery Tour!

Check out the video tour of the Coursey Springs Hatchery posted by The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

Lantz completed the 35 acre renovation back in 2010 and the hatchery continues to thrive in its new home.

The 17 acre construction included:
•   40 trout rearing tanks
•   Wastewater treatment capability
•   New feed storage building
•   Spring cover to protect water supply
•   New residence for Hatchery Manager
•   Oxygen enhancement technology to increase fish production

The renovation gave the hatchery the capability to produce 600,000 – 650,000 catchable size rainbow, brown, and brook trout for stocking in Virginia’s public waters.

“It came time to renovate the facility and now this is obviously the most modern facility that the department owns. Which is excellent news for fisherman, they have seen and will see an increase in the size of the fish,” said Hatchery Manager, Eric Wooding.
