The seventh annual Dayton Muddler, held on Saturday, August 4th, was good, clean (well, maybe not clean) fun for participants and spectators alike.

This unique 4-mile adventure course includes obstacles such as mud pit crawl, water slide, feed bag carry, and hay bale climb, and runs through the historic town of Dayton, Virginia.  Nearly 40 waves of races took place throughout the day with start times between 7:30 AM and 10:50 AM.

For the past three years this annual event has benefited Boulder Crest Retreat, a non-profit dedicated to military and veteran wellness.

The Muddler lived up to its name after rain pelted the course for two straight days before the event, but for race day on Saturday it was a picture perfect summer day with blue skies and sunshine.

Three five-person teams from Lantz Construction – Lantz Forces One, Two, and Three – competed in the Corporate Cup race and finished in 1:05:36, 1:12:10, and 1:18:52 respectively taking 3rd, 4th, and 6th place out of ten teams.  It was Lantz’s first time participating in the Muddler.

The Lantz Muddlers were: Josh Baldwin, Kyle Cash, Patrick Cline, Doug Driver, Kevin Gabel, Jennifer Hinkle and daughter Lauryn Shirkey, Seth Little and brother-in-law Josh Baughman, Billy Maddox and wife Dominique, Wayne Saylor and grandson Marcus Life, and Lantz summer intern John Weiss.  Seth’s friend Casey Collins helped out as a last minute replacement.

Food and beverage vendors included Flavor Savor BBQ, Mashita, Tropical Smoothie Café, Brothers Craft Brewing, Blue Ridge Bucha, and Old Hill Hard Cider and local alt-country band Thieves of Burden played live from 7-9 PM.
