Steven Hottle retires after more than four decades with Lantz

With mixed emotions and great appreciation, we announce the retirement of Steven Hottle after nearly 44 years with Lantz Construction. Steven’s career at Lantz began on August 16, 1976 and ended May 29, 2020, making his the longest uninterrupted tenure of any Lantz team member.  His longevity of service is a rarity and we sincerely thank Steven for all of his contributions to our company.

His primary responsibilities over the years were in sales and business development, but he was also intimately involved in a number of preconstruction functions during his career including estimating and marketing. Steven served as a member of the Lantz Leadership Team for several years and participated in countless internal committees and work groups.  He has served on the boards of several community non-profit organizations, and at the time of his retirement, was an active member of the Harrisonburg Rotary Club and the Otterbein United Methodist Church.

Steven was with Lantz throughout multiple economic cycles and played an important part of what Lantz is today.  When he started in 1976, our registered company name had just recently officially changed from Lantz Homes, Inc. to Lantz Construction Company.   That name change came on the heels of our first million dollar project, the Plains District Elementary School (1972), which started the shift away from residential construction.  Today, Lantz has well over 100 employees and exceeds $40m in construction per year.

Over the course of his career at Lantz, Steven received numerous accolades from clients and fellow Team Lantz members.  Here are just a few:

  • “I want to congratulate your company, and in particular Mr. Steven Hottle, on the manner in which he conducted himself and represented your company during the negotiations for our new building. He certainly carried on his business in the most professional way. His attitude, his pleasant countenance, his intelligence, and his general demeanor, spoke well for both Mr. Hottle and Lantz Construction!” Melvin Cagen, Trinity Plastics Corporation
  • “Steven came to Lantz during a time of great change for our company as we transitioned from residential to commercial construction. We were in a period of growth, and over Steven’s 43+ years with Lantz, we continued to evolve and prosper. Many of Lantz’s successes can be attributed to Steven and we thank him significantly for all his hard work and dedication over the years!” Jeff Deavers, Chief Preconstruction Officer
  • “For over 43 years Steven has demonstrated outstanding dedication to our company, and more importantly, its values.  He is the consummate sales professional.  He is always cheerful and willing to embrace new challenges in our changing industry.  Steven’s contribution to our Company’s success is immeasurable, and I will be forever grateful to him for his hard work, tutelage, and friendship over the years.  I wish him the best of luck in his well-deserved retirement.” Douglas Driver, Past President
  • “The expertise Steven has gathered over more than four decades is truly commendable!  Upon his retirement, we will all miss his wisdom and his institutional knowledge of Lantz and so many other construction-related matters.” Chris Weaver, President & CEO

Please join us in wishing Steven the best of luck in the future and the enjoyment he will have getting to spend more time with family and friends and with more time on the ski slopes and on his bicycle!
