In October 2021, for “Careers in Construction Month,” Lantz and other educators and industry members across the nation pledged to promote careers in construction, an initiative of the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER).

To honor our pledge, throughout the month we shared videos on our social media platforms that promoted some of Massanutten Technical Center’s various construction programs (and launched a friendly contest for the most popular video), we hosted several MTC students here at Lantz for half a day, and our own Pete Harman went to MTC to speak to second year students about career opportunities and current industry trends to better prepare the young men and women.

Taking the NCCER’s pledge automatically entered Lantz in a drawing to win one of four $5,000 scholarships to be awarded to the “secondary construction craft training program” of the winner’s choosing.  Of the 171 total participants in the national campaign initiative, we were notified in November that Lantz was selected as a winner! It seemed only fitting to award the scholarship to MTC; needless to say, they were thrilled with the news and will use the $5,000 to fund their five construction programs and co-curricular activities.

A press release posted on NCCER’s online “newsroom” includes the following quote from Lantz Marketing & Communications Director Arianna Williams:

“Lantz Construction Company awarded the scholarship money to Massanutten Technical Center because it is a staple in our community and a great school for those interested in a career in construction. They offer a variety of construction programs including carpentry, electricity, building management, welding, architecture and interior design. These students excel, and many find jobs locally upon graduation.”

Careers in Construction Month (CICM) is a nationwide campaign held every October to increase public awareness of construction careers, inspire the next generation of craft professionals, and make an impact on the perceptions of a career in construction. Learn more about CICM.

Massanutten Technical Center offers classes to area high school and adult students in a variety of career areas.  MTC is located at 325 Pleasant Valley Road in Harrisonburg and online at www.mtcva.com.
