The Stonewall Jackson Area Council (SJAC) of the Boy Scouts of America held its Corporate Pinewood Derby on May 20th at Melrose Caverns in Harrisonburg.  Lantz was a Checkered Team Sponsor which provided us with two car kits.  Entering the contest for Lantz were Chairman of the Board Doug Driver and Chief Preconstruction Officer Jeff Deavers.

The Scouts’ Pinewood Derby has been a major annual highlight for the group since 1953.  This corporate-level fundraiser permitted adults to build their own miniature wooden, unpowered cars and reclaim their childhood just long enough to compete in a race.

Although Driver “worked his butt off” to make his own car, he fell significantly short of Deavers who came in third place with his outsourced, professionally built racer.

The SJAC is the local council of the BSA, serving Scouts in areas of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and West Virginia, and areas of central Virginia.  For more information, visit www.sjacbsa.org.
