John Long Retires After 45 Years

In December 2017, John F. Long, Jr., Lantz Construction’s Senior Estimator and Corporate Secretary, retired after 45 years with the company.   John began his career with Lantz in 1972 as a tradesman/carpenter after studying art and business administration at James Madison University (then Madison College).

John is the last remaining team member who was employed in 1976 when the firm’s name changed from Lantz Homes Inc. to Lantz Construction Company.

In 1977 John traded in his tool belt for a desk and took on the dual role of Project Manager and Estimator.  John found that the preconstruction side of the business was his true calling and he remained in that capacity throughout his long career, receiving promotions to Chief Estimator (1984) and Senior Estimator (1991).  He was a member of Lantz’s leadership team and a trustee of its Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP).

An active community leader in Broadway for more than 35 years, John has served as president of the local Jaycees, the Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, and the Rotary Club, and is a former mayor of Broadway, serving from 2006-2015.  Similarly active in the construction industry, John served two terms as president of the Valley District Associated General Contractors (AGC) and as Chairman of the Board.

John is looking forward to spending more time golfing, hunting, and fishing.
