City of Staunton announces new pool house to be constructed at Gypsy Hill Park
STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – The city of Staunton announced that a new pool house will be constructed at Gypsy Hill Park, replacing the current 67-year-old structure.
The new pool house will be more modernized and accessible for community members of all ages at the park.
The current two story structure has faced a series of structural problems over the years including deteriorating walls, corroding steel joists, and a lack of modernization throughout the structure.
“We have a beautiful park here at Gypsy Hill Park, Montgomery Hall Park and we are very lucky in the City of Staunton,” Josh Knight, communications manager of Staunton, said. “But a lot of our parks are old and for this one it was just time to receive an upgrade.”
One of the biggest issues for community members was having to use stairs or long ramps in order to access the bathrooms and changing rooms.
Now with the future pool house being only one story, community members will no longer need to use stairs or ramps in order to access the bathrooms and changing rooms.
Construction is already underway but a groundbreaking ceremony at the park will be held on Friday August 4th at 11:00 AM. The expected date of completion for the pool house is aimed to be completed by May 2026.
