BROADWAY, Va. (WHSV) — A construction bid for renovations to two elementary schools was approved last week by the Rockingham County School Board.

The improvements will include an update to the HVAC and electrical systems at John C. Myers Elementary. Other upgrades will include new windows and doors, according to Steve Reid, the director of maintenance for the district.

The renovations will also create more classroom space in the building, which was constructed in the 1960s as a middle school.

“There are still spaces here that are more middle school driven-type spaces,” Reid said. “There are some shop areas and some locker rooms that we’re going to convert to classrooms in the process of the renovation.”

During construction, classes will be held in the new classrooms — eliminating the need for trailers.

Improvements are also planned for Fulks Run Elementary but will not be as large in scale.

Renovations to two other elementary schools — Pleasant Valley and John Wayland — have already been completed.
