About This Project
Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind was the first school of its kind in the state of Virginia, and also one of the state’s oldest schools, having opened in 1839. Many construction and renovation projects have taken place in the school’s almost 200 year history, including this exterior work we completed in early 2026 for one of their dormitory spaces, Bass Hall.
This project required the removal of the existing membrane roofing on their front porch area and reinstallation of a new membrane system complete with pavers and integrated gutters and downspouts. A decorative porch cover was added to match existing architectural elements which includes red metal roofing and architectural steel columns with wood framing.
